FRAUDITOR GETS SHOT 9 TIMES BY POLICE - BODYCAM BREAKDOWN

A year and a half ago, I interviewed Luis Johnson and I told him this. >> I just think that you're going down a very slippery slope. Very dangerous and slippery slope and I hope you reconsider for your own good. >> 18 months later, he got shot nine times by the police. He is still alive and today we will be breaking down the body cam footage. Now, just as a heads up, I will not be showing any gore. I will not be showing the parts where he was pissing blood. I just want to show what happened and just the bare minimum amount so we can dissect it for educational purposes because I think that this should be a warning to everyone who wants to play around with guns, want to do these Second Amendment stunts, and don't understand proper gun procedures, and don't understand that when you are involved in a shooting, you should not run away from the cops while holding your gun. Anyways, let's get started. >> What? WHICH WHICH ONE? >> JUST TO GIVE YOU GUYS SOME ADDITIONAL CONTEXT, at this point, this guy, Luis Johnson, already shot someone else. He was already involved in a shooting. He was the prime suspect. He was the active shooter. He lives in that building and he ran in there using his key fob and who knows who else he could have shot once he got upstairs. Keep in mind this is a bloodthirsty frauditor that goes around in public with his AR, with his Glock and tries to get into confrontations to post it on YouTube. Now it looks like he got into a confrontation. He claims that it's self-defense but once again, he shot the guy in the stomach. Now frauditors are known for shooting unarmed people after taunting them. Just take a look at the case of Hoyt Webb, that's exactly what happened and I believe he got 3 years in prison. But let's say even if this guy was armed, let's say someone came at him with a baseball bat and he shot him in the stomach. You still don't run away from the cops while armed. What that's telling the police is that you are guilty, you just shot someone and you're about to murder a bunch of more people, which is what they tried to stop and they most likely did stop. >> Turn around now. Turn around. >> YOU'RE ON YOUR STOMACH. YOU'RE ON YOUR STOMACH. YOU HAVE TO PUT YOUR HANDS ON YOUR STOMACH. LAY ON YOUR STOMACH. YOU'RE ON YOUR STOMACH NOW. >> GET HIS HANDS >> SHOTS FIRED. SHOTS FIRED. Shots fired. Suspect's down. >> You shot my son. Put your hands on your back. >> STAY BACK. STAY BACK. >> YOU SHOT MY SON. YOU SHOT MY SON. >> THANK YOU, SIR. Thank you. Hey. [ __ ] you. What the [ __ ] is everybody at? >> So I'm going to stop it here because the rest of the video is just Johnson pissing blood as he is claiming self-defense and let me just say that once again, the self-defense theory here doesn't fly because he ran away from the cops. Now granted, the cops didn't give him much of a chance to put down his gun because at this point, he was already running away from them. He was already an active shooter and they made a split-second decision. They saw someone who already shot someone who's running into a building, probably going to shoot up more people, so they turned him into Swiss cheese. They said drop the gun, he wouldn't do it. They weren't going to wait for him to turn around and for him to start pointing it at them. He still had it in his hand. In my opinion, it's a justified shooting, but we'll see what the DA has to say about it in the next couple weeks. For now, let's take a look at the press conference where the police chief is going to go into a lot more details and give you guys all the context regarding the shooting. I'm not going to interrupt it so much because I want to make sure you guys absorb all the information. >> Well, good afternoon. Thank you all for coming. I'm Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas and I'm here with Major Crimes Division Commander Matt Clark to provide a detailed follow-up briefing on an officer-involved shooting incident that occurred the early morning hours of last Sunday, May 3rd. Um As you can see from the video that we've provided, uh this was a rapidly evolving incident uh ultimately leading to a dangerous armed encounter. Uh I'm sure that there will be a number of questions about how this particular incident unfolded and we'll be happy to answer those questions as best we can following the presentation. Matt. >> Good afternoon. My name is Matt Clark. I oversee the Major Crimes Division for the Denver Police Department. Appreciate the opportunity to provide a follow-up briefing with information related to the police officer-involved shooting that occurred in the 700 block of 16th Street on Sunday, May 3rd, 2026. This information we'll be providing today is based upon uh analytics of evidence collected at the scene, interviewing witnesses, and speaking with the involved officers. On Sunday, May 3rd, 2026 at approximately 1:55 a.m. Denver police officers assigned to a proactive downtown deployment were near 16th Street when they received a ShotSpotter notification indicating gunfire near the area of 16th and California Street. Shortly after, the police dispatcher alerted the officers to a report of a shooting at the same location. These officers were specifically near 16th Street to provide an additional police presence related to out-crowd activities. With the officers already in the immediate area, they responded quickly arriving within 1 minute of the ShotSpotter notification. The officers did not have an opportunity to assess the shooting victim or obtain additional information about the incident as they were immediately flagged down by an individual who pointed out the subject who had shot the victim. The officers observed the identified subject near the entrance of an apartment building in the 700 block of 16th Street. Upon seeing the officers, the subject immediately entered the building's vestibule while disregarding the officers' commands to stop. The officers followed the armed subject into the vestibule while continuing to issue verbal commands. While in the vestibule, the subject continued holding a firearm in his right hand and began turning towards the officers. Believing the subject posed an imminent deadly threat to uniform Denver police officers, discharged their duty handguns striking the subject. The subject fell to the ground and was secured by officers who immediately provided medical aid until paramedics arrived. The subject was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Additional information regarding his specific injuries is not available due to privacy considerations, but he has been released from the hospital. Officers located the initial shooting victim near 16th Street and California Street suffering from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was transported to an area hospital and is expected to recover from his injuries. The involved officers were not injured during the incident. Through the investigation, it was determined that the two Denver police officers discharged a combined total of nine rounds from their duty handguns. Investigators and crime scene technicians recovered a black.45 caliber Glock 21 semi-automatic handgun. There was one round in the chamber and 11 in the magazine. This firearm was the one that was possessed by the subject throughout the incident. Investigators also recovered a black, excuse me, a belt holster from the subject which had an additional magazine loaded with 17 rounds of ammunition. The subject has been identified as 24-year-old Luis Johnson. The involved officers are uniform patrol officers assigned to patrol District 6. One officer joined the police department in 2022 and the other in 2023, and neither officer have been involved in a prior police shooting incident. All officers at the location had their body-worn cameras activated. In accordance with the department's policy, the involved officers have been placed in a non-line assignment pending completion of the department's reintegration process. This remains an active investigation. We've spoken to a number of witnesses and are still seeking an opportunity to speak with anybody else who we haven't talked to or who may have video or other evidence related to this incident. That can be given to the police department by contacting us directly or through Metro Denver Crime Stoppers. This incident is being investigated by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the State Patrol, the police department's homicide unit, the Denver DA's office, and it's overseen by the Office of the Independent Monitor. I'll show some brief slides which are screenshots captured from one of the officers' body-worn cameras and a crime scene photograph of the subject's firearm, and then I'll take any questions you may have. This is in the vestibule area of the building in the 700 block of 16th Street. In this particular frame the subject is facing essentially away from the officers. The handgun is pointed towards the ground in his right hand, and he's reaching his left out. This is the frame still shot from a frame 1 second later. The subject has turned. The The handgun still remains in his right hand as he's turning towards the officer and looking at them. And this is right within the frame or so when the officers discharge their weapon. Here's a crime scene photograph of the subject's weapon. Again, a Glock 21 semi-automatic 45 caliber handgun. I can answer any questions you may have. >> Is the man who shot is in custody? >> He is still in custody, yes, sir. >> And what are the What are the charges or are they expected? >> He was put on an investigative hold at the time for investigation of first-degree assault related to the shooting involving the incident at 16th and California and the District Attorney's Office is reviewing the case and will make a formal charging decision. >> Is there a Is there a potential motive for the for this shooting that preceded this? >> The preceded the officer-involved shooting, we don't know. We're still really kind of uncovering that. We're We've identified a number of witnesses that we have interviewed and we're still really kind of putting together the initial engagement that caused those two to be involved in that altercation. >> And was that shooting in public or was it indoors or >> It was in public. It was literally on the corner of 16th and California and so there were a number of people that were around to see that. >> Um I have people watching this video tonight. I guess what would you want them to take away from it? I know we just kind of had a few people looking at it and it was brought up maybe that the guy looks like he might be dropping his gun as he's being shot at. So, I guess what would you want people to take away from it? >> I would want them to understand that this was a rapidly evolving incident. It literally unfolded in a matter of seconds from when they uh engaged him, um made commands, and then ultimately discharged their weapons, and both of those officers have indicated in their statements that they felt an imminent danger of being shot. And so, um I I think that, you know, obviously I don't get to make the determination as to whether or not that is a justified shooting. That's the district attorney's. Um, uh it's it's their particular responsibility and duty, um but I'm comfortable uh with those officers uh displaying that action in that particular situation, for sure. >> And so, they were told, "Hey, the suspect's going that way." And that's what we're seeing in the >> Yes, they they the suspect was pointed out. They actually saw him uh running into that uh that apartment complex, and so pursued him. Uh it was not able We're not able to get to them until he had crossed that first threshold, and then it was attempting to get across that second threshold. >> He saw a resident of that complex? >> Uh do you know that guy? >> He was. >> Yes, he was. >> That that's the way that he maybe unlocked the >> Yeah, we believe that he was able to uh sort of key fob his way into that first entrance. Uh for some reason that door didn't completely shut, thankfully, which was why it which allowed the officers to to enter before he was able to get past that second threshold and potentially be a danger to other individuals inside the apartment complex. >> Any other questions? >> Just a follow-up. Uh this one is the Was this second shooting that night? So, maybe he was uh self-defensing from another shooting, or he was the the bad guy. I don't know. >> We're not aware of another shooting incident that this particular individual was involved in prior to him engaging in the shooting that led us to to be at that particular scene. We're not We're not aware of that. >> And the DA is now reviewing this and will let you guys know >> Yes. >> In the meantime, the officers are not on the street, but as the protocol and in >> They're going through our reintegration process right now. >> A recommendation for the visitors or resident in the 16th Street Mall? >> Uh I would say that uh the 16th Street Mall, uh 16th Street, and other areas in the downtown core are uh very safe. I think that our crime stats over the last several months uh kind of bear that out. We've seen significant reductions in uh all violent crime. Certainly a very scary uh startling incident uh to occur, you know, in front of other people on the mall. And so, recognize that to be a concern, but overall safety is uh secure downtown. >> So, at this point, they're still trying to figure out if his initial shooting was self-defense or not. Because keep in mind, frauditors are known to manufacture self-defense situations, and I don't want to say that this guy did that. He might not have, but we don't have all the context. So, once we have all the context, either he's going to get charged with first-degree assault, which could land him in prison for 20 years, or he's going to face no charges whatsoever. But, that doesn't change the fact of what happened afterwards. Even if he faces no charges whatsoever, and this was self-defense, he acted very, very bad, piss-poor. Because by running away from the cops while you just discharged your weapon, you are making yourself look guilty. You're making it look like you're going to endanger more people. So, I think there's very, very, very tiny chance that this shooting is not going to be labeled justified. To me, it looks justified.
